PALMETTO - A man who shot himself in the leg then lied to police by telling officers that gang members had attacked him, authorities reported.
Antwon C. Stuckey, 19, was arrested after showing up at Manatee Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound last Tuesday. Stuckey told officers that members of a Latino street gang, Sur 13, tried to kill him, according to a police report.
But Stuckey eventually changed his story, and admitted to officers that he was sitting in Palmetto's Lincoln Park when the gun went off accidentally, the report indicated.
Stuckey, a convicted felon, was charged on Friday night with giving a false name and carrying a firearm. He was held overnight.
