Osmond family patriarch George Osmond passed away early Tuesday at the age of 90.
Donny Osmond was on the "Entertainment Tonight" set this morning preparing to tape a segment for Tuesday's show when he heard the sad news.
The Osmond clan, who lost their mother, Olive, three years ago, was scheduled to appear on and be honored by "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Friday.
Marie Osmond, who is competing on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," flew to Utah to be with her family. She's not the only "Dancing" contestant to have lost a parent this season: Actress Jane Seymour, who was eliminated Tuesday night, missed a show last month after the death of her mother, Mieke Frankenberg.
Brooks Is Best-Selling Solo Act
Garth Brooks officially is the best-selling solo act in U.S. music history. Again.
Brooks collected his latest hunka-hunka precious metal Monday from the Recording Industry Association of America, certifying total album sales of 123 million copies, allowing him to surpass Elvis Presley to reclaim the No. 2 slot.
The Beatles have long been No. 1 on the RIAA's ranking of U.S. album sales, currently showing sales of 170 million and counting, but the No. 2 position has shifted over time. In recent years that spot has been held by Brooks, Led Zeppelin and, most recently, Presley, whose album sales stand at 118.5 million. Before Monday's news, Brooks had held No. 3 with 116 million sales.
Brooks' sales figure is certain to continue upward with the release of his three-disc "Ultimate Hits" compilation album Tuesday.
Cash To Have Brain Surgery
Rosanne Cash is facing brain surgery for a "rare but benign condition" and must cancel the last four concerts on her tour.
"Rosanne is expected to make a full recovery and will return to the studio to complete the recording of her debut for Manhattan Records," the music label said Tuesday.
Cash, who lives in New York, will "undergo brain surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital for a rare but benign condition," the statement said.
Cash is the daughter of the late country star Johnny Cash. She signed with EMI-based Manhattan Records earlier this year.
She has been touring in support of her latest album, "Black Cadillac."

Giada De Laurentiis may have to put her weekend getaways on hold.
The star of Food Network's "Everyday Italian" and "Giada's Weekend Getaways" says she is expecting her first child, a baby girl, in April.
De Laurentiis, 37, announced her pregnancy on NBC's "Today Show" on Monday. She is a contributing correspondent on the morning show.
So, how is her husband, clothing designer Todd Thompson, dealing with impending parenthood?
"He's freaked out and he's excited, all in one," De Laurentiis said.
