LAND O' LAKES - A memorial service is planned Sunday in honor of Sgt. Scott R. Turner, a soldier from Land O' Lakes who died Oct. 24 in a training accident at Fort Riley, Kan.
The service will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the FOP Lodge at 21700 YMCA Camp Road, off U.S. 41 near Bell Lake Road.
Turner's mother, Sharon Turner of Land O' Lakes, said the local memorial service will give friends and family members a chance to "remember him in a special way."
The Army held a service last week at Fort Riley.
Turner, 30, was fatally injured when a Humvee rolled over on the Fort Riley maneuver area, the Army said.
The M1 armor crewman was serving as a transition-team trainer at Fort Riley at the time of his death.
Transition-team training prepares small teams of soldiers, airmen and sailors to advise, teach, mentor and coach their Iraqi or Afghan counterparts, according to a Fort Riley statement.
Turner, a 1995 graduate of Land O' Lakes High, enlisted in the Army in June 2001. He served a tour of duty in Iraq.
He is survived by his wife, Aimee, of Fort Riley.
Besides his mother, survivors include his father, Robert Turner of Land O' Lakes; brothers Craig Turner of Land O' Lakes and Dean Turner of New Port Richey; paternal grandparents Robert and Julia Turner of Crystal River; and maternal grandparents Norman and Evelyn Belanger of New Port Richey.
