TAMPA – Police are searching for a robber who used a hunting rifle to hold up his victims.
Officers arrested two other men in connection with the armed robberies already. The trio used the rifle to rob two people in separate incidents in the Central Tampa area about midnight, police said.
The first robbery occurred at 39th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The second happened at 2401 E. 21st Ave. Investigators say the robbers shoved the rifle into the victims' faces, grabbed an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a Ford Expedition.
Officers spotted the Expedition and started a low-speed chase along Interstate 275 North. The Expedition crashed at Hillsborough Avenue, officers said. They arrested the driver, but the two passengers took off running.
Officers caught one of the passengers, but the other is still on the loose. Officers believe he may be armed with the rifle. They did not find the weapon in the vehicle.
