TAMPA - On Sunday, up to 20,000 rubber ducks will float down Garrison Channel in a race to raise money for America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay food bank that distributes 50,000 meals per week.
The rubber ducks, each "adopted" by a donor and tagged with a number, will float from the bridge on South Meridian Avenue to a finish at the Tampa Convention Center.
The ducks will be released at 12:15 p.m. from the bridge, and the race will finish about 2:15 p.m.
There is a sizable reward for the winning duck.
The person who paid the donation for the winning duck wins $25,000. (If the winner is a "preselected million-dollar duck," the owner gets $1 million.)
Second place gets airfare and tickets to the Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., and third place is worth a 10-pack of four center-ice tickets to Tampa Bay Lightning home games.
The winner will be announced at 2:15 p.m. after the finish of the race.
People can still donate and receive a duck until Saturday by going to www.luckyduckyderby.com or Tampa Bay area Winn-Dixie, Lifestyle Family Fitness or Bank or America locations.
You can also donate at the Food Bank headquarters, 5300 Adamo Drive, or at the Tampa Bay International Auto Show, which is running through Sunday at the convention center.
