LARGO - Running back Brynn Harvey scored three touchdowns and rushed for 195 yards to lead Largo to a 41-7 victory over Northeast to complete the Packers' undefeated season.
Harvey started Largo's scoring with a 3-yard run up the middle in the first quarter. An interception by Largo's defensive back Jason Wine in the second quarter led to Harvey's second touchdown, a 63-yard run.
Harvey said after the game his plan to "keep running down hill and let the line block" was the key to his rushing yards after contact.
Harvey's third touchdown run surpassed the 10-game season yardage record of former Largo running back Dexter McCluster (and current University of Mississippi wide receiver). He broke the record on his first carry of the third quarter, an 81-yard run down the right side. Packers quarterback Leonard Johnson continued the third-quarter scoring with a 45-yard run.
Largo wide receiver Mario Goshay's 15-yard catch from Johnson ended the third quarter. Largo running back D.J. Key's 1-yard run in the fourth closed out the victory.
Harvey's three touchdown runs and 195 yards on 14 carries capped his record-setting night and Largo's undefeated regular season.
The last time Largo had an undefeated regular season was in 1977, but the final game was forfeited because the Packers had an ineligible player who was on the sideline wearing the same color jersey but not in uniform.
Northeast's only touchdown, a 36-yard catch by receiver Hank White, came in the first quarter after defensive back Steven Sommer's interception. Northeast standout running back Jeff Brinson did not play because he has fractured ribs.
