Drunk Mom Arrested After Child Wanders, Deputies Say

The 3-year-old boy left the unlocked apartment and was exposed to great danger while walking near a busy street, Hillsborough County deputies say.

Deputies found his mother intoxicated while asleep in the apartment, and medics had to wake her, a criminal arrest affidavit states.

Corrie Jean Bruns, 25, of Tampa, was arrested Saturday and faces one felony count of child neglect. The Hillsborough County Jail Web site lists her last name as Burns.

Deputies initially found the child under the care of store employees at a 7-Eleven on Hillsborough Avenue.

The affidavit didn't state how the boy got to the store.

Bruns "was so intoxicated" she believed the boy was at her mother's home, deputies said.

Bruns, of 5512 Wood Forest Drive, Apt. 103, remains at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $7,500.
