1. RED WINGS: With team-record win streak, this is beginning to look like one of the most dominant Detroit rosters in years.
2. SENATORS: As good as they've been at home (9-2), they're fantastic on the road (5-0).
3. CANADIENS: People keep trying to give G Cristobal Huet's job to rookie Carey Price, but Huet keeps getting it done.
4. AVALANCHE: On top for now in what looks like the NHL's most competitive division, the Northwest.
5. HURRICANES: An uninspiring loss at home to a struggling Lightning team did not bode well for Carolina's immediate future.
6. WILD: Have gone 4-4-2 since 5-0 start, but only now are starting to get healthy as a team.
7. FLYERS: The "dizziness and fatigue" that have Simon Gagne out of the lineup sound a lot like symptoms of a concussion, but the team won't say.
8. ISLANDERS: Former Lightning RW Ruslan Fedotenko leads this team in power-play goals with three.
9. BLUE JACKETS: It is impossible to overstate how impressive G Pascal Leclaire's start has been but here's a try: He's Vezina and Hart worthy so far.
10. BLACKHAWKS: The youngsters in Chicago and Coach Denis Savard have given this franchise new life.
11. MAPLE LEAFS: It looks like G Andrew Raycroft is beginning to create some space between himself and Vesa Toskala.
12. BRUINS: Things would look a lot better in Boston if someone on this team would begin to produce offense consistently.
13. RANGERS: If this team could score more, G Henrik Lundqvist might be undefeated.
14. DUCKS: They sat atop the Pacific Division, even though their record was below .500. All that means is they've played more games than the others.
15. CANUCKS: After poor start, G Roberto Luongo seems to be coming around with a three-game win streak.
16. STARS: It took him 14 games, but Mike Modano finally got the points he needed to become the top-scoring U.S.-born player ever.
17. LIGHTNING: Finally broke through on the road, and G John Holmqvist looked unbeatable. They'll have to do that for five more months to make it mean anything.
18. COYOTES: They're hovering around .500 and in the thick of the Pacific Division race. That's something new for them in November.
19. FLAMES: They had better hope Daymond Langkow's concussion isn't serious, or else their season already is in jeopardy.
20. KINGS: Even sitting in last place in the Pacific Division, they're better positioned to make some noise than they were last season.
21. SHARKS: Turned out that Jeremy Roenick (nine points in 14 games) wasn't quite ready for retirement, after all.
22. DEVILS: It's beginning to look like departed free agent Scott Gomez was a lot more important to this team's offense than New Jersey realized.
23. PREDATORS: Remember when G Chris Mason allowed one goal in his first 64 shots this year? No? Well, it actually happened. Which underscores how poorly he's played since.
24. PENGUINS: It's becoming painfully clear that Pittsburgh isn't going to do a thing this year unless G Marc-Andre Fleury gets better in a hurry.
25. BLUES: RW Brad Boyes has scored 25.7 percent (9 of 35) of the goals scored by St. Louis. He needs help.
26. SABRES: G Ryan Miller hasn't been great, but that's not the main problem. They need to score more than five goals every four games.
27. CAPITALS: Without Alexander Semin (ankle, injured reserve) this team simply lacks scoring punch. Alex Ovechkin can't do it alone.
28. THRASHERS: If someone doesn't stop Ilya Kovalchuk soon, he's going to score about 500 goals this year.
29. PANTHERS: It's simple, really. They're giving up too many goals and not scoring enough themselves. Olli Jokinen battles gamely, but he has little help.
30. OILERS: Well, at least the city of Edmonton could enjoy the Canadian Finals Rodeo this weekend at Rexall Place.
