If nautical nonsense be something you wish, it helps to be patient.
When SpongeBob SquarePants unleashes "Atlantis SquarePantis," another of his periodic special episodes tonight, it will have been a long time coming: more than a year from the time the animators at Nickelodeon's Nicktoons studios in Burbank sat down to sketch the outlines of a story about SpongeBob's quest to the lost city of Atlantis until the episode was delivered to the network.
The 33-minute episode is the longest-ever installment of the eight-year-old series.
The result, which stars David Bowie as Lord Royal Highness, and which will be shown at 8 p.m., is part of Nickelodeon's twice-a-year daylong marathon of viewers' favorite "SpongeBob SquarePants" episodes.
Rapper's Mother Dies In Los Angeles
Donda West, mother of Kanye West and former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department, has died, a spokesman for the rapper said.
Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said the spokesman, who asked for anonymity because not all family members had been notified. Her age was not immediately known.
A cause of death has not been released.
Donda West was known for the strong bond she shared with her son, by whose side she was often seen at parties and award shows.
Keys Opted For Less Wild Profile
If it weren't for her mother, Alicia Keys might have a radically different image.
Keys, who has a new album titled "As I Am," says that when she was trying to choose a professional name she went through a dictionary and stopped on the word "wild."
She tells Newsweek in the magazine's Nov. 19 issue that she asked her mother how Alicia Wild sounded. "She said 'It sounds like you're a stripper,'" Keys said.
After that, the singer born Alicia Augello-Cook decided to use Keys.
Peabo Wants Payment, Manager Says
Peabo Bryson's manager and the owner of a South Carolina sound company say South Carolina State University failed to pay them for performances during the school's homecoming last month.
The Grammy-winning singer and R&B group Silk performed on Oct. 27. Bryson's manager, Jeff Alston of Bronx, N.Y.-based Rebel Soul Records, said the singer is owed $16,000. Madison Meadows of Greenville-based Audio Mass said the school still owes him $3,900. But Edwin Givens, the university's assistant for legal and government affairs, said the school paid a promoter and his company for the concert.
The school will work with the singer's management to ensure he is compensated, but is "in no way liable for payment due to Mr. Bryson," Givens wrote.
