Two men counterfeited U.S. currency and tried using it at a Miami Subs shop and another business, Tampa police say.
Police arrested Stephen Holland and Jerome Lynn Jackson on Sunday night on North Dale Mabry Highway.
Stephen Holland
After being confronted about using a counterfeit $20 bill at Miami Subs, Jackson denied knowing the money was counterfeit and Holland left in a Buick Century, a criminal arrest affidavit states. The Buick's license plate number was the same given by another shop owner regarding an attempted use of counterfeit money.
Holland, 25, of St. Petersburg, and Jackson, 30, of Clearwater, were placed in a police car equipped with a hidden recorder, according to the affidavit. They discussed using a computer to produce counterfeit money.
Police found motel room keys-cards on the men and got consent to search the room, according to the affidavit. Officers found more than 10 counterfeit bills in the room, along with printers.
Jerome Lynn Jackson
Both men face charges of felony counterfeiting U.S. currency and felony distribution of counterfeit currency.
Jackson also faces a charge of felony possession of more than 10 counterfeit U.S. bills.
The men remained in Orient Road Jail, with Holland's bail set at $4,000 and Jackson's at $6,000.
