TALLAHASSEE - He was back at practice Monday night, but when Florida State starting QB Drew Weatherford woke up Sunday morning - the day after suffering a concussion at Virginia Tech - football wasn't at the top of his priority list. Aspirin was.
"The next morning was kind of rough," Weatherford said. "I had a headache and was a little nauseated, but as the day went on, I was fine."
Weatherford said he still doesn't remember the helmet-to-helmet collision he had with Hokies CB Brandon Flowers, and he hasn't seen the hit on TV.
"I don't think I'm going to," he said.
The former Land O' Lakes High star said he felt "really good" Monday and expects to play in Saturday's home finale against Maryland, although with a newfound appreciation of the quarterback slide.
"I've never slid very much. I'm definitely going to work on it after last week," Weatherford said. "I'm just going to have to learn from that mistake, and it was a mistake. I need to get down in those situations."
Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, a former high school and college quarterback who suffered multiple concussions during his career, said he constantly reminds his quarterbacks to protect themselves.
"We have an old saying: Touchdown, first down, get down," Fisher said. "That was one he needed to get his tail down. I bet he remembers next time. Like I told him, there is a fine line between toughness and stupidity. Sometimes it takes a shot like that to learn."
TV NEWS: The Atlantic Coast Conference announced that the FSU-Florida game on Nov. 24 will kick off at 5 p.m. on WTSP, Channel 10.
