It was a day to show the colors, to honor the sacrifice.
As veteran Douglas McCormick said Monday of his Air Force service during the Vietnam War: "It's probably the best thing I ever did."
The deeds of all U.S. servicemen and women received praise and appreciation at a Veterans Day parade and ceremony held on the Bay Pines VA Medical Center campus in south Pinellas County. Flags, salutes and ceremony were the order of the day Junior ROTC cadets from Dixie Hollins and Gibbs high schools marched for the nation's soldiers who have served in wars present and past.
One cadet participating in the rifle salute to its warriors expressed the nation's debt simply: "The veterans are why I'm free."
Monday's parade and ceremonies were organized by the Veterans Liaison Council of Pinellas County.
