Regarding "Kill 'Em, But Watch Your Language" (Metro, Nov. 3):
I take exception to Daniel Ruth's column on coaches who curse. I have always been taught that people who use curse words are uneducated and have a poor vocabulary or they wouldn't need curse words to express themselves.
People in polite society don't use that kind of language. We all know those words, but we don't use them at church, school, on the job or at home. I used to ask my students, "Do you talk like that in front of your mother?" The answer was always, "No."
I see no need for coaches to use that kind of language. High school coaches are teachers. Teachers don't swear in the classroom. Neither should coaches at school or Little League. Coaches are role models. Coaches are supposed to be teaching sportsmanship. They should also control their language and set a good example for their players. Tony Dungy seems to get his ideas across without cursing.
