Largo police say a female motorist found a toddler wandering in a busy intersection Tuesday night.
At 8:20 p.m., the woman saw a 10- to 12-month-old child wandering at 66th Street and Ulmerton Road. She said she got out to check on the baby and that another woman exited a nearby car, said the child was hers, picked up the toddler and said she was going to take her to a hospital, police said.
Police said they contacted all local hospitals and found no child matching this description: a black girl in a white outfit who had small braids in her hair.
"It's not like we have a statewide manhunt or an Amber Alert on this," Largo police spokesman Mike Loux said. "We believe it is what it appears to be. We'd like to talk to the mother. Right now, we don't have any indication of foul play."
Anyone with information should call (727) 587-6730.
