TALLAHASSEE - TALLAHASSEE - Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of Jeff Bowden's resignation as Florida State's offensive coordinator.
Bowden stepped down three days after a 30-0 loss to Wake Forest left the Noles 5-5, agreeing to a severance package worth $537,500 over a five-year period. He coached the final two regular-season games and FSU's 44-27 victory against UCLA in the Emerald Bowl, but since that night in San Francisco, Bowden has rarely been seen around the program his father built into a national power.
FSU coach Bobby Bowden said Wednesday that his youngest son has been busy with other matters but that he expects Jeff to return to coaching next season.
"I think he is just waiting to see what breaks and see where he thinks he'd want to go,'' the elder Bowden said. "I haven't talked to him hardly any. He is staying at home and doing some work. I've been here and he's been there.''
One possible opportunity could be a reunion with his brother Terry Bowden, who is interested in returning to coaching after a 10-year broadcasting career. Jeff worked on Terry Bowden's staffs at Samford and Auburn.
SENIOR WISH: Senior OL Jacky Claude has started 35 games during his career, more than any other non-kicker on FSU's roster. He will start his final one in Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday in FSU's home finale against Maryland.
If Claude can work out the details, Senior Day should be a day he'll never forget.
"I'm working on a plan on getting my family up here,'' said Claude, who is from Miami. "If I can get them up it, it will be wonderful, because my mom has never seen me play in Doak Campbell."
NOLE NUGGETS: Bowden said RB Antone Smith, the team's leading rusher, practiced Wednesday
and all signs point to him being ready Saturday. Smith suffered a bruised shoulder at Virginia Tech … WR Damon McDaniel returned to practice in a limited capacity after missing two days with the flu … FB Seddrick Holloway has been working at RB along with WR Preston Parker and QB De'Vontrey Richardson this week as Smith heals. Bowden said Holloway, a squatty 5-foot-10, 248 pounds, has caught his attention. "He's not bad,'' Bowden said. "He's a blocker, but he's a pretty good runner. He's a better runner than you realize.''
