NEW PORT RICHEY - He tricks the eye into believing there is movement in his paintings. He does it by using blots of color.
His brush strokes swirl to form patterns that bring order out of chaos.
The completed work is dizzying in the way that Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" is, yet Jim Singer's paintings are serene, says Lynn Rothman, director of marketing and public relations at Pasco-Hernando Community College.
PHCC is hosting "Color in Motion," a showing of Singer's art, Thursday through Dec. 13 at the Alric C.T. Pottberg Library on the West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road.
The exhibit kicks off with a reception from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the gallery.
Singer is well-known in art circles in New England, New York and Florida, where his oils hang in galleries in Naples, Palm Beach, Sarasota and Tampa.
Regular viewing hours at the PHCC gallery are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
