WESLEY CHAPEL - National retailer Macy's has submitted designs for a store at the Shops at Wiregrass, confirming it as the plaza's third anchor tenant.
The construction plans, submitted Tuesday for review by Pasco County, show a two-story department store built around a central escalator.
The 140,000-square-foot store will sit in the center of the 800-square-foot, semicircular "lifestyle center" now under construction at State Road 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
Architectural and engineering schematics show Macy's will have a second-floor walkway linked to a neighboring parking deck capable of holding more than 520 cars.
The parking deck will be shared by Dillard's department store, which will anchor the plaza's eastern corner. JCPenney, which opened in 2005, anchors the plaza's western corner.
Macy's will join smaller tenants including Pottery Barn, Gymboree and Aveda.
Developers Forest City Enterprises and The Goodman Co. are moving forward with construction of the plaza with plans for the entire shopping center to open next spring.
Before that can happen, however, crews must complete the first leg of work extending S.R. 56 eastward from its current end at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. That work, which will take the six-lane road to the eastern edge of the plaza, could begin in January, developers have said.
