TAMPA Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies this morning arrested a man they say opened fire on a pedestrian two weeks ago, hitting him several times in the legs.
Michael Clemmons, 23, of 11739 N. 14th St., Apartment A, was arrested Thursday morning at a neighbor's home after deputies obtained a warrant charging him with attempted murder.
The incident occurred at 3:35 a.m. Nov. 2 as Deatrick Frederick walked home from a convenience store at Fowler Avenue and North 15th Street.
Deputies said Frederick was near his home when he saw Clemmons involved in a dispute with other individuals. As Frederick, of 9802 N. Brooks St., walked past, gunfire erupted. Frederick was struck several times in the legs. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital and treated. He provided deputies a description of a man known to him as "Mike."
Deputies identified Clemmons as Mike and issued a warrant for his arrest on Nov. 5. He was was taken into custody this morning without incident. He was in Orient Road Jail this afternoon. Bail had not been set.
