Local Fans Crave 'Dateline' And Belzer On 'SVU'

Published: November 15, 2007

Where's "Dateline"? Where's Detective Munch?

Who won the Elvira masks?

So many questions - so little space. The couch potato stud is here to answer a few.

Q: Why isn't "Dateline" on anymore? I wish they would put that on TV rather than so many of the silly sitcoms.

- J. Holshue, Apollo Beach

A: The last "Dateline," on Oct. 28, featured Matt Lauer reporting on the film "American Gangster."

"Dateline" usually lays low in the fall when NBC fills Sunday prime time with football. But more are on the way now that a writers strike has shut down the sitcom and drama factories. Reporter Chris Hansen is out there now looking for predators.

Q: My friend and I are big fans of "Law & Order: SVU" and of Richard Belzer, who plays Detective Munch. We were hoping to see more of his character this season, but we are seeing the opposite with him.

He has been replaced as Tutuola's partner. What's going on? We really hope he's not leaving the show.

- Tiffany Jones, Tampa

A: Belzer is still a part of "L&O," but the producers have to give the meaty stuff to Mariska Hargitay to keep those Emmy nominations rolling in.

Belzer has been nominated for a People's Choice Award as "Favorite Scene Stealing Star."

TRIVIA ROUND: A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down the pants for the merry winners of my trivia questions.

Ernestine Eisenhauer, Don Legler, Mike O'Donnell and Karen Bullard knew that Gabby Hayes was Roy Rogers' bearded, toothless sidekick and the "peanut gallery" was where the kid audience sat on "The Howdy Doody Show." They get worthless prizes (Elvira masks) from my TV Hall of Shame.

This week's question is in honor of "Bionic Woman."

Name the wrestler who put on a costume to play Steve Austin's most popular foe in episodes that clearly were jump-the-shark moments for "The Six Million Dollar Man." Another meaningless trinket is at stake.
