PLANT CITY - Here's your chance to do your part to make the holidays brighter and help a sick child.
For $15 and up, you can buy a light for the community Christmas tree in McCall Park at Collins and Drane streets. The money goes to the South Florida Baptist Hospital pediatrics department.
The lights will be turned on at the ninth annual Lights of Love, a tree-lighting ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 6.
Mayor Rick Lott is scheduled to lead the countdown for lighting the tree, an evergreen that was planted in the park about eight years ago, said Judy Martin, executive director of the hospital foundation.
The ceremony will include holiday choir music. From 5:30 to until 7:30 p.m., children can have their pictures taken with Santa for $5 at Billie's Craft Supplies & Gifts, 108 N.E. Drane St.
Drane Street will be closed between Palmer and Collins streets starting at 4 p.m. so risers for choir members can be placed in the street, Martin said.
Sponsorships start at $15 and range up to $5,000
