We Shouldn't Play Ball
Regarding "Let's Get The Reds Game On In Pasco," Wednesday:
As a Pasco County resident I have, for years, felt sorry for the residents of Hillsborough County for having to live with the Jim Normans, as they try to (and do) put your tax money into the pockets of sport team owners.
Let's hear it for the Glazers as the USF Bulls have a sellout at Raymond James Stadium.
My sympathies extend to the unfortunate souls living across the bridge who were forced to give their tax money to build what is now Tropicana Field.
Oh yeah, that team, the Tampa Bay Rays, now wants to let you build them a new place to play. Come on, folks, you don't really want tax relief, do you?
One very scary thing is when it could be suggested that this project would be OK if the team could find a way to win a few more games. You've got to be kidding!
Now the Tribune Editorial Board has the bright idea of giving the Reds money or a stadium to come to Pasco.
As this conversation starts, please ask yourself some questions: What percentage of Pasco residents will ever attend a game? How many preseason games are there? And finally, if it were such a good thing, why is Sarasota letting the Reds get away?
I find great comfort in the knowledge that while our county commissioners want to build someone a tennis court (sic), they are smart enough to know the negative effects of government in private enterprise.
One only needs to look at Citizens Property Insurance Corp. for proof.

Keep On Giving
On behalf of Habitat for Humanity of Central Pasco and Christian Social Services, I'd like to express my overwhelming gratitude to the community for the generous support of our ongoing "Harvest for Humanity" effort.
The Harvest so far has helped raise some sorely needed funds for our local affiliate so we can begin building our next home for a local family in need. The food drive portion of the Harvest helped fill many empty shelves at Christian Social Services, a local charitable organization that will feed hundreds of families with the food so unselfishly donated by a caring community.
While time may run out too soon for our favorite football teams, and the World Series doesn't seem to last as long as it used to, what really matters is that it's refreshing to see such an unlimited supply of kindness all around us.
The clock never runs out on generosity or need! There is still time to contribute to the Harvest for Humanity effort. To contribute to the next Habitat home in central Pasco, please send your check to Habitat for Humanity of Central Pasco County, P.O. Box 2107, Land O' Lakes FL 34639.
To donate nonperishable food to Christian Social Services, deliver to 5514 Land O' Lakes Blvd., Land O' Lakes FL 34639.

Understand Our Laws
It was sad to see the story of illegal alien Mireya de los Santos the other day. She knowingly and willingly illegally entered the United States with her illegal alien husband, who is now being deported for being an illegal alien.
While Mireya was in the United States illegally, she had children, which is the last thing an illegal alien needs. Because she had these children, they were allowed to enter the state school system without their illegal alien parents paying anything into it. And now she is suing instead of following her husband and head of household back to their home, where their family would be intact.
It is much more productive financially for an illegal alien to use our system for monetary gain than keep her family together. Does anyone out there see a familiar outcome of this problem, and does anyone see a main word for this story and 20 million others?
The main word for people out there who can't understand our laws is "illegal."
