More than 200 students gave a turkey a run for his money this morning at Palm Harbor Montessori Academy, part of the school's annual Thanksgiving celebration.
Well, it resembled a turkey anyway. It was actually Jeff Ewelt of Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, dressed as the holiday fowl.
The big bird didn't put up much of a fight, either: Every child got a ribbon for catching him after a chase around a track in the driveway of the 5-acre school campus, 2355 Nebraska Ave. near U.S. 19.
The length of the track varied depending on the age of the children, which ranged from 1 to 13.
The school has been holding a Thanksgiving celebration for about 10 years, said events coordinator Judi Kashuck.
It included a holiday feast complete with turkeys from 10 a.m. to noon, and it heralded a week off of school now for some of the students.
