Pasco Deputies: Mom With Stroller Burgled Cars

HUDSON - A 22-year-old mother was arrested early this morning, accused of burglarizing cars while she was out pushing her 5-month old baby in a stroller.

Ronald Corring saw the woman stealing money out of his 2003 Mitsubishi outside his Beacon Woods Village home and confronted her, a sheriff's office report states.

The woman ran, taking with her the $3.22 from his center console, according to the report. Corring called deputies.

Just after 4 a.m., Pasco County deputies and police dogs tracked her at Lincolnshire Drive and Village Mill Row and arrested Cassie Dawn Chapman, who had her baby with her.

The infant was in the stroller and covered with blankets as wind gusts reached almost 30 mph and the temperature was 45 degrees, according to the report.

Inside the stroller deputies found a power drill, CDs, a portable CD player and a car stereo, according to the arrest affidavit.

After being read her rights, she told deputies she stole the items from a silver sport utility vehicle, the report states.

"I have done something stupid," Chapman is said to have told the deputies. "I was only doing this to pay off my probation."

She was sentenced to three years of probation in September on charges of organized fraud.

She now faces charges of auto burglary, petty theft and child abuse. She is being held at Land O' Lakes jail, with bail set at $10,150.
