For Big Snook, It's Game On

Published: November 16, 2007

GO FISHING is a daily look at the area fishing scene through the eyes of local charter boat captains and fishing guides. Today: Mike Anderson, right, with "Reel Animals" partner Billy Nobles.

Fishing has been very consistent this week. The big snook have pushed back in the deep creeks and rivers and it is game on.
Moving water and a nice selection of scaled sardines seem to be the trick. Cooling water temps have given these fish a big boost of energy so even a 24- to 26-inch snook is great action on light tackle.

These creeks also seem to be holding some big trout and reds. They're also a great spot to take the kids as almost every creek we were in this week was holding a good number of jacks.

Early in the week we also managed to get on a nice school of slot redfish in the Fort DeSoto area. The fish were between 22 and 25 inches. Live sardines under a popping cork seemed to work.

The Fort DeSoto area is also starting to hold some nice-sized trout in good numbers. We had good luck fishing the deeper edges of the flats in 4 to 6 feet of water.

Catch captains Billy Nobles and Mike Anderson on the "Reel Animals Fishing Show" on Saturdays from 6:30-7 a.m. on WFLA, Channel 8, and on Sundays from 8-10 a.m. on WHBO, 1470 AM. To book a charter, call 1-866-GAMEFISH or visit www.reelanimals
