Video Of Couric May Make Rather Hot Under The Collar

Published: November 17, 2007

Though battles between news anchors have historically been between rival networks, today's ripest feud is a purely CBS affair: Katie versus Dan.

The rivalry took a humorous turn Thursday when a video was posted on the Web showing Katie Couric poking fun at Dan Rather while preparing to anchor a broadcast from Nashville last week.

While makeup was applied to her, Couric mocked Rather. A video of Rather surfaced last month, showing the former "CBS Evening News" anchor obsessing over his appearance before a remote broadcast - particularly questioning the wearing of an overcoat.

"I'm going to be like Dan Rather on YouTube," Couric said while fiddling with her coat. "Geez, don't you think he deserves a little payback?"

She then added, laughing, "This tart is ready to go!"

In June, Rather, who left CBS News in March 2005, referred to his successor as "a nice person," but said "the mistake was to try to bring the 'Today' show ethos to the 'Evening News' and to dumb it down, tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience."

Big 'Sex And The City' Star Has Baby On The Way

Mr. Big is about to become Big Daddy.

"Sex and the City" star Chris Noth and his girlfriend, Tara Wilson, are expecting their first child, the actor's representatives said Friday.

"Chris and Tara are very happy and have always agreed to keep what is most personal in their lives private," Noth's manager and publicist said in a statement.

Noth, 53, played Sarah Jessica Parker's love interest on "Sex and the City."

He'll reprise his role as Mr. Big in an upcoming "Sex and the City" movie. He also plays Detective Mike Logan on the TV show "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

Heart Infection Stops Show For Newton

Wayne Newton has been sidelined with a recurring heart infection.

The Las Vegas icon and "Danke Schoen" crooner has cardiomyopathy, a viral infection of the heart muscle, said Deanna Pettit, a spokeswoman for Harrah's Entertainment.

The 65-year-old singer has canceled a two-month holiday engagement at Harrah's Las Vegas and won't be performing on the Nov. 27 finale of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," Pettit said.

Colbert Proves Pro At Fundraising

All it took to raise money for South Carolina schools was a brief mention by Stephen Colbert.

When Colbert announced last month that he was running for president, the Charleston native and host of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" also asked viewers to give to DonorsChoose.org, which helps fulfill teacher wish lists for classroom materials.

"So I encourage everyone, go on, make donations to teachers in South Carolina, let's make a difference," Colbert said.

The brief comment by the 43-year-old talk-show host, who has since dropped his bid for the White House, raised $59,000 in 10 days and reached 13,000 public school students in South Carolina, said Peter Bloom, the group's national chairman.
