NEW PORT RICHEY - Calli had flown the coop.
The eclectus parrot, beloved companion of Deborah and Dale Boyll for 10 years, was missing for three days and the family was frantic.
Something had startled the green bird and he took off "faster than you can blink" while the garage door at the Parkwood Estates home was up, Dale Boyll said.
The Boylls searched for the bird, but Calli was difficult to spot among the trees. They could hear him but couldn't see him.
They called 13 people trying to get someone who could help get Calli back.
Sympathetic to their situation, the general manager of Three Seasons Lawn and Landscape, Frank Randazzo, dispatched a tree crew to the Boyll residence. Following tips from the couple, the crew discovered Calli had flown from the Boyll yard and perched high in a tree on a small island in the back of the property.
The workers took a canoe over to the island and crew supervisor Stanley Waddington climbed more than 50 feet up a tree to reach the parrot.
A video of his recovery shows Calli sitting on Waddington's finger in the Boyll living room.
The family treated the Three Seasons staff to pizza last Thursday at the company's office. The Boylls bought lunch because "Three Seasons wouldn't take one cent in payment" for the rescue, Dale Boyll said.
"They're truly good people," he said. "It's not all about the money. They have a good heart."
