Keswick Chr. Advances

ST. PETERSBURG - As Rick Sanson's 11-0 Keswick team gathered in prayer and congratulations following their 48-27 defeat of 5-6 Lakeland Victory Christian, news of Bradenton Prep's win against Orlando Pine Castle Christian ushered in a sonorous roar. The Crusaders, in their first playoff victory, knew that they will continue playing in the Class 1B playoffs at home.

"It's awesome," Sanson said. "We play so much better at home. Going to Pine Castle would have been a lot bigger chore, because we are the ones on the road and the ones with the two-hour bus ride. It's huge not having to deal with that, especially on a holiday week."
Keswick jumped out to an early lead when Jared Stacy found Tarvin Jones on a 35-yard pass for touchdown on their first possession. Victory would stall at Keswick's 21 on the ensuing drive and turn the ball over on downs. After a Storm defensive penalty, Crusaders' running back Jared DiMaggio took off for a 74-yard touchdown run.

Victory would answer with a big play of its own: a 52-yard TD pass from Mike Skjefte to Tegan Johnson. After another Keswick TD reception by Jones, the Storm had a chance to cut their 14-point deficit going into the locker room at halftime. They controlled the ball on a steady six-minute drive and advanced to the Crusader 1-yard line. As time expired, the Storm coaching staff tried to call for a timeout which they did not possess, ending their best chance to catch up with the Crusaders.
