CLEMSON, S.C. - Matt Ryan pulled out another game for Boston College and put the Eagles in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game.
Ryan threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Rich Gunnell with 1:46 to go, lifting the Eagles to a 20-17 victory against No. 15 Clemson on Saturday night.
The Tigers (8-3, 5-3) had taken a 17-13 lead on Cullen Harper's 4-yard touchdown run with 5:28 left. But as Virginia Tech found out last month when Ryan tossed two touchdowns in the final 2:11 to beat the Hokies 14-10, the Eagles (9-2, 5-2) can't be counted out as long as their senior quarterback has a chance.
On BC's winning drive, Ryan completed a 12-yard pass to Clarence Megwa on third-and-8. Then, facing third-and-7, Ryan lofted a perfect pass to Gunnell, who had slipped behind the defense and easily walked in for the go-ahead score.
NOTRE DAME 28, DUKE 7: Jimmy Clausen threw a pair of 25-yard TD passes 73 seconds apart to break the game open and lead host Notre Dame past Duke (1-10). The Fighting Irish (2-9) avoided their first winless season at home in 74 years.
Both touchdown passes came after fumbles by Duke. Clausen first connected with a diving David Grimes with 1:17 left in the first half, then threw to Duval Kamara with 4 seconds left. He also had a 9-yard TD pass to John Carlson in the fourth quarter.
Duke, playing on national TV for the first time since 1996, lost its eighth straight.
GEORGIA TECH 27, NORTH CAROLINA 25: Travis Bell atoned for an earlier miss by kicking a 27-yard field goal with 15 seconds left as host Georgia Tech (7-4, 4-4) overcame four lost fumbles to beat North Carolina (3-8, 2-5).
The Tar Heels had taken advantage of quarterback Taylor Bennett's second fumble to go ahead 25-24 with 5:50 remaining.
The Tar Heels still haven't won outside the state of North Carolina since beating Arizona State in 2002.
WAKE FOREST 38, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 18: Riley Skinner threw two TD passes, including a momentum-shifting 62-yarder to Jordan Williams that led Wake Forest (7-4, 5-3) past host North Carolina State (5-6, 3-4).
Linebacker Aaron Curry returned a late interception 57 yards for a TD - his third scoring return of the season and the Deacons' NCAA-best eighth defensive score.
De'Angelo Bryant rushed for one TD and caught another, Skinner was 20 of 29 for 208 yards, Alphonso Smith intercepted two passes in the red zone and Josh Adams ran for 84 yards and a TD.
