TAMPA – City workers removed a detour around a broken water line on Sligh Avenue this afternoon, though a portion of the road is reduced to two lanes.
The two westbound lanes of Sligh between Willow and Rome avenues are closed but westbound traffic is being shifted to one of the two eastbound lanes.
The 6-inch water line that broke Saturday afternoon is fixed, said Elias Franco, spokesman for Tampa's water department.
However, restoring the road will take longer. If the work is not finished by Wednesday, barricades will remain in place through the four-day holiday weekend, Franco said.
That means traffic on that portion of Sligh might not return to normal until at least Nov. 26.
The city is trying to contact a company to finish the work this week.
On Saturday, workers made temporary repairs and water service was not interrupted.
