WESLEY CHAPEL - A 35-year-old man whom authorities call the "No. 1" suspect in a recent Okeechobee County homicide was arrested Sunday on federal probation violation charges stemming from prior bank robbery, narcotics and weapons possession convictions.
Acting on tips from its West Virginia office, the U.S. Marshals Tampa Bay Area Fugitive Task Force coordinated with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office to locate Matthew Paul Morris at 31234 Claridge Place just after midnight Sunday.
Morris was out on bail after being arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with two counts of assault with the intent to kill, felon in possession of a firearm, and failure to stop, according to a release from the U.S. Marshals office in Tampa.
When Morris was arrested Sunday, he was in possession of a 9 mm Glock, an AK-47 assault rifle and narcotics, the U.S. Marshals office staid.
Authorities later discovered that the residence housed Latin King gang members, the release states.
Additionally, a Tech-9 machine gun was found with four large capacity magazines, according to authorities. An Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms, and Explosives agent and the Pasco sheriff's office vice and narcotics unit responded to the home. Morris likely will face additional charges.
He is being held without bail at the Land O' Lakes Jail.
