TAMPA - Tampa Bay Water is asking customers in some areas of Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties to cut off their lawn irrigation systems for a week starting Nov. 27 while the utility replaces a pipeline connection.
Customers being asked to conserve are those getting drinking water from Pinellas County Utilities, Pasco County Utilities in the Land O' Lakes and Odessa areas, Hillsborough County Water Resource Services in the northwest area of the county, and the city of St. Petersburg.
During construction, Tampa Bay Water will shut down an 84-inch pipeline which provides 60 million to 75 million gallons of water a day. The shutdown is part of the utility's effort to expand water service to meet central Pasco County's growing demand. The shutdown is timed to coincide with the cooler time of year when established lawns and landscapes can survive without irrigation.
Residents will continue to receive water from the utility's regional system through their local providers, but supplies will be limited. Customers may experience lower water pressure during peak usage times and are asked to curb all nonessential water use during the shutdown.
