EAST MANATEE - The scene of a fatal accident in East Manatee County this morning turned gruesome when authorities found another car in the woods with a decomposed body lying nearby.
The initial accident happened sometime about 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 64 and County Road 675 when a car pulled in front of a truck. The car, making a left turn to go west on S.R. 64, was struck by a truck heading east on S.R 64, authorities said.
The driver of the car, a man, was killed in the wreck; his identity has not been released. The wreck tied up traffic for quite some time on S.R. 64 and C.R. 675, which is heavily used by rural commuters between state roads 64 and 70.
A news helicopter covering the accident spotted a car in the woods to the north of S.R 64 and told authorities, who investigated and found the wrecked car and a woman's body nearby. They found some of her teeth on the ground, and her body was decomposed.
Authorities were still taking measurements at the scene about 11 a.m., and had not yet made an identification of the woman. The car is a 1994 red Saturn; the woman appeared to be in her 30s, authorities said.
