LAKE WALES - LAKE WALES - LAKE WALES -- A 49-year-old skydiver died Tuesday morning from injuries suffered when his tangled parachute failed to open Sunday, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported.
Joseph Lambraith, of 326 S. Goldin Highway, Gilbert, Ariz., fell to the ground on Sunday when his parachute became tangled, Donna Wood, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said.
Lambraith was conscious when emergency crews arrived and airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Wood said.
It's been ruled an accidental death, Wood said.
Skydivers had gathered at Lake Wales Airport and broke the record for the most stacked parachutes in a vertical, diamond-shaped formation.
Wood said she didn't know whether Lambraith was taking part in the event.
