TAMPA - The city of Tampa doesn't host the Women's Final Four for another five months, but already plans are under way to bring another tournament to the area.
Tampa Bay organizers received an invitation from the NCAA that included a declaration of intent to host form, basically inviting the city of Tampa to submit a request to host the basketball tournament in the future. The deadline for submitting the form is today.
"We're submitting the form and moving forward in the process," said Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. "Hopefully we'll be hosting several Final Fours."
Higgins and his group will submit the form for events between 2013 and 2016.
Tampa hosts the 2008 Women's Final Four April 6 and 8 at the St. Pete Times Forum.
It's the first time the Women's Final Four has been in the state of Florida.
