'Nothing more' for the Ravens, 34-13

SPRING HILL - Perhaps Edgar Allen Poe would have blushed.

Poe penned the tale of 'The Raven' in 1845.

The Ravens' plight seemed fitting Friday night in the Hernando County Recreation Department's Fall Flag Football, 'A' Division finals at Veterans Memorial Park after Coldwell Bank silenced The Ravens, 34-13.

It could have been called the Selway show after Coldwell Bank (11-1) claimed the league crown by downing the 6-7 Ravens.

Coldwell Bank's quarterback, Roy Selway, was red hot, throwing three touchdown passes, two to his brother Tim, and one to another brother, Shaun.

The tilt began with Tim Selway intercepting a pass from Raven quarterback Cache Blevins and taking it to the end zone for the game's first score. After two more touchdown passes from Roy to Tim Selway, Coldwell led comfortably, 21-0.

The second half started a little different when Blevins connected with Carlos Alvarez on a 40-yard TD pass, cutting the lead by seven.

An interception by the Ravens gave them the ball back and Blevins took advantage, hooking up with his brother Chance. The ensuing point-after touchdown failed, 21-13.

Here, Roy Selway knew it was time to run the clock and score or the Ravens may make it too close for comfort.

The signal caller did just that, driving down the field for another score. Brother Tim intercepted a pass on the Ravens' final attempt at a comeback, running it in as time expired, 34-13.

Both teams showed a lot of respect and admiration for the other and when asked, Cache Blevins spoke highly of his adversaries, saying "We were playing the best team in the league. I think these guys have played in the last five championships. "
Blevins went on to say, "Roy (Selway) is by far the best QB in the league. He buys so much time, you can't play defense. I've got some of the most athletic guys out here. They've all played ball at one time or another. If he (Selway) has time in the pocket, he's going to find somebody, and he doesn't make mistakes and capitalizes on anything you give him.

"We played real good. It was a good season," Blevins summed up. "Everybody kinda underestimated us. A lot of people think we're not good enough to be here in the 'A' division. But we upset the No. 1 seed last week in the playoffs in good fashion, 26-12. We earned our spot here."

"We started off playing very well, very solid," commented Roy Selway. "They came back on us very quickly and put a little bit of a scare. We came back and ran some shorter plays and eventually they came a bit close, and then we hit them deep, which we have been doing all year. We got away from that a little bit. They got the interception on me and scared us for a little bit.

"They played very well," added Selway. "A very good defense. It's one of the hardest defenses we played against all year. We knew it would be tough, because they do a good job defensively."
