ORLANDO - Four local Special Olympians participated in the Fall Classic State Bowling Championship earlier this month - bringing home a total of five medals and one ribbon.
The Hernando bowling team started out with 49 bowlers, four of whom were eligible to compete at the state level after placing in the county and area competitions.
The team left Friday, Nov. 2, for Disney World and returned Sunday, Nov. 4. It was the second time Disney hosted the event and plans are underway for it to be the host city again next year, said county coordinator Fred Click.
Approximately 650 bowlers from across the state participated.
Eryn Diemer and Tyler Johnson each earned a gold medal while Kerri Wambold earned a silver. Ross Johnson won a fifth place ribbon and a gold medal for "most inspirational athlete."
Head coach Ken Diemer was awarded a gold medal for being the "most inspirational coach."
