TAMPA - A 17-day-old infant is in critical condition today at Tampa General Hospital after being ejected from a pickup that crashed on Interstate 4 on Wednesday.
Five other passengers in the truck are being treated along with infant Nicolas Garcia, said Tampa General spokeswoman Donna Gebbia. Ruben Bravo, 55, is listed in critical condition and Carlos Torres, 36, is in fair condition, Gebbia said.
The conditions of Ramiro Flores, 28, Rosa Abendano, 26, and Nestor Garcia, 6, were not available.
The accident occurred about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday when a 2004 Ford pickup driven by Ruben Bravo, 27, rolled over on westbound I-4 after the right rear tire blew, according the Florida Highway Patrol.
Nicolas Garcia was ejected from inside the truck while still fastened in an infant car seat, according to report.
Some of the passengers were riding in the bed of the truck, authorities said. The crash, which happened near the overpass for U.S. 301, snarled traffic for hours.
Bravo, of 5112 Palmetto Road, Kissimmee, was arrested Wednesday at the hospital and charged with driving with a suspended license, the Highway Patrol said.
Bravo was released from Orient Road Jail this morning after posting $2,000 bail.
