This Thanksgiving there is much to be thankful for.
I am thankful for the men and women of the armed forces who defend this great country.
I am thankful for the sacrifices that my nephew, a specialist in the Army from Ft. Hood, and his entire unit give each and every day. They returned a year ago on Thanksgiving from the war in Iraq safely and are now preparing for their next tour.
The brave men and women of the armed forces make these sacrifices willingly and they know the risks. Some will make the ultimate sacrifice and never return to a home cooked meal or the warmth and love of their family and friends.
I am also thankful for their families who set the table Thanksgiving and all holidays as if their soldier was coming home only to know that the plate will bear no food and chair will remain empty again for another holiday. I pray these families find peace - the peace that their soldiers are fighting for.
I am thankful to and for them all.
So as you sit at your table this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season, please remember those in your prayers that can not be with their loved ones for reasons beyond their control. Remember their families, for they need our thanks and prayers as well.
