DADE CITY - Only two of three finalists chosen by the city commission are scheduled to interview for the city manager position.
Matthew Brock of Melbourne (no relation to Dade City Mayor Hutch Brock), withdrew from consideration Monday.
According to Laura Beagles, the city's director of administrative services, Brock decided to finish out his two-year-contract as the town manager of Grant-Valkariaf in Brevard County. The town formally incorporated as a municipality in July 2006.
With Brock's withdrawal, the remaining candidates are:
•Robert T. Mearns, of Fernandina Beach, where he was city manager from 2002 to 2005. He now works as a consultant.
•Bruce C. Behrens of Clermont, a consultant who previously worked as city manager of Minneola in Lake County.
Behrens is tentatively scheduled to interview with city commission members at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the city commission chambers, 14150 Fifth St. Mearns is to interview at 4:30 p.m., Beagles said.
The city's finance director, Jim Class, has been working as interim city manager since Harold Sample retired July 1. Class decided he did not want to apply for the permanent position.
