PLANT CITY - A 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in two separate incidents ‑ a hit and run crash where he left injured passengers behind and attempting to run a police vehicle off the road after a shoplifting at Wal-Mart, authorities said.
William Paul Roauer IV was being held today at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $150,700.
Plant City police gave the following account:
Roauer was being sought for leaving behind three injured passengers following a Nov. 8 traffic crash on Paul Buchman Highway. He ran away with an unidentified female passenger following the crash, which sent three other passengers to the hospital, police said.
On Tuesday, police caught up with Roauer: He was driving a GMC pickup they chased after the shoplifting incident was reported in a Wal-Mart at 2602 James L. Redman Parkway.
Officers moved to stop the truck but the driver tried to run one police vehicle off the road. The driver then abandoned the truck and ran into a strawberry field in the 4400 block of Holloway Road.
Officers chased down the driver and placed him in custody. He was identified as Roauer.
Roauer faces 13 charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle, battery on an officer, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, aggravated fleeing to elude, grand theft, shoplifting and others.
