Psychological Profile

A decade ago, the species was overflowing with confidence unless the game came down to a kick against Miami. Fans celebrated two national championships and two Heisman Trophy winners (Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke) in the 1990s. These days, hope has returned following a tumultuous period that included the leader of the species being placed on the endangered list.

Traits

Older fans are a cordial group for the most part, still suffering somewhat from an inferiority complex due to FSU once being an all-girls school. And they love Coach Bobby Bowden, the man who introduced FSU to the world. Younger fans have gone from euphoric to a bit skeptical in recent years, wondering if Bowden should retire to his favorite rocking chair.

Native Habitat

Doak Campbell Stadium, home to Bobby Bowden Field. There is also a bronze statue of Bowden outside and a large stained-glassed window of Bowden on the stadium's exterior. Yeah, you could say Bowden owns the place. For many years, these Seminoles called home a place worthy of a good high school team. Now it's a palace fit for a king.

Signature Move

The Tomahawk Chop.

How To Identify

It's not as easy as it used to be. Sometimes they wear all black. Sometimes they are decked completely in garnet. And yes, sometimes they'll still wear the traditional garnet and gold. Regardless, they often outnumber their opponents and are known to travel pretty well. Be careful if you accidentally step on one, because they are known to be defensive and will attack back.

If You See One

Whatever you do, don't say anything about Free Shoes University or Lane Fenner's non-catch or Peter Warrick's trip to Burdines or Adrian McPherson's banking habits. Those are sore subjects. But Ward, Weinke and Bowden are all leaders of the pack. And if you see possibly the most famous of them all, simply shout out Prime Time and he'll flash you a million-dollar smile.
