Nature Coast Festival Singers to perform today
WEEKI WACHEE - The Nature Coast Festival Singers have been rehearsing for their upcoming Christmas concerts since August. Their first show will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Nativity Lutheran Church in Weeki Wachee. Their next two performances will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Wesleyan Village Church in Brooksville and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Hudson. Patient care assistance classes to begin Monday
INVERNESS - The Withlacoochee Technical Institute has announced it will begin its patient care assistance class Monday, Nov. 26. The class will enable students to earn certified nursing assistant and home health aide certifications. The classes will meet from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately 11 weeks. The course will certify students to work in hospitals and long-term care facilities. They may also work in home health care. The tuition will cost $533, but books, supplies and lab fees will be additional. For more information, call student services at 726-2430.
BPW to host networking event Tuesday
SPRING HILL - Hernando County Business and Professional Women (BPW) are inviting the public to attend a wine and cheese and networking event from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Atria Evergreen Woods Community Room, located at 7030 Evergreen Woods Trail. Attendees will also be encouraged to "shop while they network." There will be jewelry, pottery, candles and other items available for sale. There will be an entrance fee of $5. Grandparent forum scheduled for Tuesday
BROOKSVILLE - A "Grandparents Raising Grandchildren" forum will take place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Silverthorn Country Club. The event is designed to raise awareness for grandparents about the services and support systems available to them as they raise their grandchildren. Seating is limited. To RSVP, call 796-8117. The forum is being sponsored by the Department of Elder Affairs, Mid Florida Community Services and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Christmas lights on display through Jan. 6
SPRING HILL - Jenn and Tim's Christmas House, located at 11358 Linden Drive, is lighted and passersby are invited to view it. The lights are turned on from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The Christmas display will be up through Jan. 6. People are encouraged to park and view the house. The homeowners are raising money to donate an aquarium for the Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay. The display is being sponsored by Underwater Treasurez Inc.
"Walk in the Park" group meets three days a week
BROOKSVILLE - The Brooksville Recreation Department and the Hernando County Health Department have teamed up to form the "Walk in the Park" walking group. The club meets at 8 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Tom Varn Park. The cost is free. For more information, call 544-5498.
Online payments now accepted by utilities department
BROOKSVILLE - Hernando County Utilities customers may now pay their monthly bills by credit card on the Web. To do so, customers must log onto the Hernando County Utilities Web site at www.hernandocounty.us/utils/. All transactions are made within 24 hours except for weekends and holidays. Volunteers needed for tax help
LAND O' LAKES - Income tax season begins in January, but volunteers are needed to help retirees and "wage earners" of all ages with their tax returns. Experience is helpful, but not necessary. Volunteers will be trained in early January using last year's software. Everyone must pass a test for Internal Revenue Service certification. Mileage will be reimbursed. A new site in Land O'Lakes will join the other 10 Pasco County locations, which will be staffed from February through April 15. SPRING HILL - For the convenience of local military veterans, the Hernando County Veteran Service Office has announced new locations and hours. Every Friday, veterans can visit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, located at 11375 Cortez Blvd. Every Tuesday, they can visit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brooksville Enrichment Center, located at 670 Broad St. Every Thursday, they can visit at Career Central, located at 7631 Forest Oaks Blvd. Every third and fourth Monday of the month, they can visit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the main library, located at 238 Howell Ave. Every second and fourth Thursday, they can visit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Eastside Hernando Branch Library, located at 6757 Windmere Road. Every third and fourth Wednesday, they can visit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Westside Hernando Branch Library, located at 6335 Blackbird Ave. Every Wednesday, they can visit from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library, located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive.
Lake Townsen boat ramp closed
LAKE LINDSEY - The Hernando County Parks and Waterways Maintenance Department has closed the boat ramp at Lake Townsen Regional Park, located at 28011 Lake Lindsey Road, indefinitely due to low water levels. For more information, call 754-4027.

BROOKSVILLE - Those who have questions or concerns about their Medicare coverage are invited to consult with volunteer counselors located at three sights in Hernando County. BROOKSVILLE - The ARC Nature Coast's equestrian program is in need of a donated carriage or wagon. It is known as the Promoting Opportunities and Skills with Special Equestrians (POSSE) Program. Book donors needed
BROOKSVILLE - Four Hernando County residents have donated copies of a Brooksville author's novel to International Book Bank - a nonprofit distribution service for books and other educational material. The contributors are Drs. Adel Bishay, Jay Kumar, Thomas Matthews and Jim Robinette - owner of Jijoro Computer Services. The novel being donated is "Lincoln in the Basement," a historic fiction story written by Jerry Cowling. Anyone interested in participating in the program is asked to call Cowling at 797-0984.
CARES volunteers needed
DADE CITY - Community Aging and Retirement Services (CARES) is seeking volunteers to spend time with those at the CARES Crescent Adult Day Care Center, located at 13906 Fifth St. Volunteers are encouraged to share their time and talents by participating in crafts and music activities or by playing cards and games with the participants. POSSE program needs volunteers
BROOKSVILLE - The Arc Nature Coast, a nonprofit organization that serves the disabled and their families, is in need of volunteers for its Promoting Opportunities and Skills with Special Equestrians (POSSE) Program. Market on Main Street to be held once per month
BROOKSVILLE - The monthly Market on Main Street even will take place every third Saturday of the month throughout the year, except in June, July and August.
