Chris Biuso, King, Sr.
Biuso proved again this season to be one of the area's most consistent golfers. The Lions standout finished with a regular-season average at par and registered two top-five finishes in the postseason. Biuso, a first-team All-Western Conference pick, finished as the individual runner-up at the 2A-District 11 tournament, and one week later finished tied for fifth at the Region 4 tournament, missing a state berth by two strokes.
Rick Kittelstad, Blake, Sr.
Kittelstad, a home-schooled student, turned in an impressive season in his first with the Yellow Jackets and nearly ended up in the 2A state tournament field. After carrying a 37 nine-hole average in the regular season, Kittelstad won the District 10 tournament with an even-par 71. One week later, Kittelstad, a first-team All-Western Conference pick, finished tied for third at the Region 4 tournament, missing a state berth by one stroke.
Doug Letson, Plant, Jr.
Letson, a first-team All-Western Conference selection, led the talented Panthers all season and spearheaded the team's run back to the 2A state tournament. The lefty, who had an even-par average during the regular season, finished as the individual runner-up at the District 11 and Region 4 tournaments (Plant won both team titles), and tied for 12th at state at 5-over, tied for the second-best finish among county golfers.
Ian McConnell, Riverview, So.
McConnell, a home-schooled student, nearly didn't play this season, but his decision to do so turned out to be a good one. McConnell won the District 11 tournament (helping the Sharks advance to the region tournament) and won the Region 4 tournament to earn his first trip to the 2A state tournament. At state, McConnell, a first-team All-Western Conference pick, tied for 12th, tying the second-best finish among county golfers.
Blake Morris, Berkeley Prep, Fr.
Morris, a transfer from Connecticut, made some big noise in his first season with the Bucs and helped the program get back to the 1A state tournament for the first time since 2002. Morris won the District 14 title with an even-par 72, and shot 3-over 75 to finish fifth at the Region 5 tournament, helping the Bucs claim region runner-up honors and a trip to state. At the 1A state tournament, Morris tied for 14th at 8-over, a team best.
Charles Silverfield, Plant, So.
Just like last season, Silverfield saved his best golf for the end of the season. After carrying a 39 stroke average in the regular season (third-best on his team), Silverfield turned in on in the postseason, logging top 10 finishes at the District 10 (fourth) and Region 4 (eighth) tournaments. However, his best rounds came at the 2A state tournament, where he finished tied for fourth at 1-under, the best finish for a county golfer.
Coach of the Year: Mike James, Plant
James led the Panthers to district and region titles and a second consecutive appearance at the 2A state tournament, where the team finished fifth, a three-spot improvement from 2006. It was just the fifth top-5 finish for a Hillsborough County boys golf team since 2000.
