EAST MANATEE - A piece of a man's tongue was bitten off Saturday in a violent confrontation with his live-in girlfriend, Manatee County sheriff's deputies said.
Steven Feldmar
Authorities arrested the man, Steven M. Feldmar, 30, on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after the fight at Summer Cove apartments on Lockwood Ridge Road.
At a court hearing Sunday, Feldmar had difficulty talking clearly.
Feldmar said the dispute happened when he tried to kiss his girlfriend, a 22-year-old waitress. His girlfriend bit a chunk from his tongue.
"I went nuts after that," Feldmar said in court.
The woman, Yasemin Dogancay, told a different story, according to sheriff's reports.
Dogancay told deputies Feldmar was drunk when he came home and tried kissing her as he choked her.
Dogancay told the Herald-Tribune that she did what she had to do.
Feldmar, the woman said, let go of her when she bit him. He spit blood and went to a bathroom to inspect the damage.
Dogancay ran from the apartment.
Authorities say Feldmar grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back into the apartment. She bolted from the apartment a second time and got help from a neighbor.
Circuit Judge Durand Adams set bail for Feldmar at $3,500.
Feldmar is a full-time student and waiter.
