TAMPA - The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office has dropped the charges of armed burglary, false imprisonment, witness tampering and domestic battery against boxer Nate Campbell.

''After reviewing everything, the state attorney decided not to pursue it,'' said Terry Trekas, Campbell's promoter, on Monday.

The City of Tampa Clerk's Office confirmed the Letter of Release was filed and the charges were dropped.

''It gave me a chance to remember where I was spiritually,'' said Campbell, a Jacksonville native, now living in Tampa. ''For a long time I got away from that quiet subdued guy I was before boxing.

''It just made me realize that no matter what I go through, it's OK. It was hard to go through, it wasn't an easy thing. I wasn't happy about it. It is what it is. I'm happy that it's squashed. I'm happy it's going the way it is.''

Campbell, 35, was arrested Sept. 27 after Hillsborough County deputies say he punched former girlfriend, Kanesha James, 22, choked her, then produced a handgun, threatening to kill himself if James did not renew their relationship.

Campbell, the International Boxing Federation's No. 1 lightweight contender, was taken to the Falkenburg Road Jail and released Oct. 11 following a hearing before Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich.
