If University of Florida sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow doesn't win the Heisman Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding college football player, voters need to find another line of work.
It shouldn't matter that a sophomore has never won the award or that the Gators lost three games this season, two reasons some say Tebow won't carry home the hardware.
The 20-year-old - dubbed Superman because he seems more powerful than a locomotive - had one of the greatest regular seasons in the history of college football.
After throwing for three touchdowns and running for two more in Saturday's 45-12 romp over Florida State, Tebow's stat sheet is extraordinary.
He set a school record for total offense in a season, with 3,970 yards. His arm and legs accounted for an astonishing 51 touchdowns this year - 22 rushing and 29 passing - more than the team total at most Division I schools. He's the first player to throw and run for at least 20 touchdowns. And he ran for more touchdowns this season than anyone in the history of the Southeastern Conference.
He's the best player in the country.
As spectacular as Tebow is on the field, he also is humble, which is why he has declined to strike the famous Heisman pose, unlike some past contenders.
When the 73rd winner is announced in New York City on Dec. 8, Tebow deserves to be the man of the hour.
