NEW PORT RICHEY - Maybe it was boredom.
Whatever the reason, it put the 19-year-old behind bars.
As unsuspecting motorists drove along State Road 54 near Wiggins Drive on Sunday afternoon, someone hurled rocks at their vehicles, hitting and damaging many and just missing at least one motorcyclist, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.
Most of the vehicles were traveling 45 to 50 mph after 2 p.m. when they were struck, causing the drivers to swerve and nearly hit other vehicles, the report states.
Windshields were cracked, mirrors broken and at least one tire blew out.
One man reported that a concrete block came through the windshield and landed on the passenger side floor of his Infinity 130.
No injuries were reported, sheriff's office spokesman Doug Tobin said, but the consequences could have been deadly, particularly had a rock hit a motorcyclist.
Some of the victims reported seeing a shirtless young man on the side of the street. Others pulled over and chased him.
Deputies were called after motorists chased the suspect through three or four yards and caught the man, identified as Arlo Lucky LeClear, at 4039 Citrus Drive.
The suspect threatened the two men who chased him and then lunged at one of them, according to a sheriff's office report.
Jason Leonard, 27, punched LeClear for his own protection, Leonard told deputies, who found LeClear bleeding from the nose, a report said.
LeClear, of 5927 Grand Blvd., was arrested on seven counts of felony throwing a deadly missile. He was being held Monday at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $70,000.
