SIESTA KEY - A Tampa man was charged with battery on a police horse after he struck it on the rear, causing it to lunge forward, the Sarasota Sheriff's Office said.
The deputies arrested Andre D. Cervoni, 21, on a charge of battery on a police horse and took him to jail on the misdemeanor charge.
The incident started about 1:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day when Cervoni, who was intoxicated at the "Turkey Trot," a bar-to-bar event, intentionally bumped into a female deputy, a sheriff's office report states.
A mounted deputy confronted Cervoni, who then began harassing the horse the deputy was riding, the report states.
"He was advised to stop touching the police horses and to leave the area," the report states.
As Cervoni walked away, he struck Justice, the horse Deputy Richard Starowesky was riding, on the rear, the report states.
