Published: November 28, 2007

TAMPA - Circuit Judge Monica Sierra is taking an unpaid three-month leave of absence to work on a humanitarian project in Israel.

Sierra, of the 13th Judicial Circuit, sent an e-mail Monday to judges about her plan to work with Living Bread International. Her leave of absence begins Dec. 27.

In the e-mail, Sierra wrote that she is going to deliver aid to children and families of the West Bank in Jericho, where many Palestinian refugee camps are located.

Living Bread International, according to its Web site, is a nondenominational church formed in Florida that also is registered as a nongovernmental organization in Israel. It has an international TV show, including broadcasts in Islamic nations.

The judge wrote that Living Bread takes "supplies and education on the Word of God and the name of Jesus to twenty-seven refugee camps in the West Bank."

"The Word of God is a powerful weapon that America can use to fight terrorism," Sierra wrote.
