TBT Girls Pull Away In 2nd Half To Top King

TAMPA – Whatever Tampa Bay Tech coach Heather Glezen told her team at halftime, she might want to consider bottling it up and saving it for later use.

The Titans turned a three-point deficit into a 13-point advantage three minutes into the third quarter as TBT pulled away from King for a 69-52 win in a Class 5A-District 8 girls basketball game on Tuesday.

"We went in at half and talked about giving King easy shots and how that had to stop," Glezen said. "Basically, I just put a fire under their butts."

The Titans (7-0, 3-0), who trailed 33-30 at the break, responded behind guard Dae Dae Mann, who scored eight consecutive points (two 3-pointers) in the first 53 seconds of the second half.

Tech's half-court press caused numerous turnovers which led to easy baskets, and by the time the Lions (4-1, 2-1) knew what hit them, the Titans were out in front 48-35.

Sophomore DeAndra Davis, who transferred from Blake, led TBT with a game-high 27 points.

"She is a heck of an athlete," Glezen said. "The best thing about her is she always goes hard."

Senior guard Andrea Bridges added 20 points for the Titans, with 15 coming in the second half.

King senior Samara Shepherd scored a team-high 26 points – half of the Lions' total output. King also got 14 points from senior Nicole Hensel, who drilled four 3-pointers.

Tech has scored at least 56 points in each game this season and has topped 60 five times.
